15 Dump-and-Go Crockpot Meals

15 Dump-and-Go Crockpot Meals

Some days I want dinner handled before the afternoon gets busy. That is when I reach for the slow cooker. A good crockpot meal gives me a warm, comforting dinner with very little last-minute work, and it is especially helpful on weeknights when I do not want another pan on the stove.

This collection of dump-and-go crockpot meals is organized the way I actually look for slow cooker recipes: start with an easy family favorite, choose chicken or beef, or head straight to the cozy soup-and-comfort-food section. Most are very hands-off once they are in the slow cooker, while a few use a quick browning or finishing step for better flavor.

Which Crockpot Meal Should I Make Tonight?

  • Want an easy chicken dinner? Start with Crockpot Chicken and Dumplings, Chicken with Gravy, or 4-Ingredient Slow Cooker Chicken and Stuffing.

How I Choose a Crockpot Meal for a Busy Day

I usually start with how much prep time I have in the morning. If I want almost no chopping, chicken and stuffing or orange chicken are easy choices. If I have ten or fifteen minutes for browning beef, pepper steak, goulash, or one of the beef soups gives me a heartier dinner later.

I also check when the recipe needs its final ingredients. Dairy, cheese, pasta, and fresh peppers are usually better added near the end, so on days when I know I will not be home until dinner, I choose one of the recipes that can cook almost completely unattended.

Slow Cooker Tips That Make Dinner Easier

  • Read the whole recipe before starting. A few slow cooker meals need cheese, dairy, pasta, or vegetables added near the end.
  • Keep the lid closed. Opening the slow cooker repeatedly releases heat and can extend the cooking time.
  • Use LOW when you have time. Tougher beef cuts often become especially tender with the longer, gentler setting.
  • Add dairy late. Milk, cream, and cheese usually stay smoother when they are stirred in during the final part of cooking.
  • Check doneness, not just the clock. Slow cookers vary, so meat texture and safe internal temperature matter more than an exact minute count.
